Some people find the idea of a website storing information on their computer or mobile device a bit intrusive, particularly when this information is stored and used by a third party without them knowing. Village Design Statements

Village Design Statements should be used by communities who want to influence the design of future development in their town or village.

Village Design Statements are used to identify and analyse local character so that future development is more in harmony with its setting and contributes to the conservation and improvement of the local environment. They are eligible for adoption as Supplementary Planning Documents, at which point they become a material consideration and are used to ensure that applications contribute to local distinctiveness, and ensure local materials and design are incorporated into new development.

Current Consultations

Swanmore Village Design Statement – Adoption as a Supplementary Planning Document

In accordance with Regulations 12, 13 and 35 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 (as amended), South Downs National Park Authority is undertaking a public consultation on the adoption of the draft Swanmore Village Design Statement (VDS) as a Supplementary Planning Document.

The document will – when adopted by South Downs National Park Authority – provide design guidance for development within that part of Swanmore Parish inside the South Downs National Park and will supplement the South Downs Local Plan. The draft document includes a statement of the public consultation undertaken so far.

Please take this opportunity to comment on the draft. All comments will be taken into account as part of the preparation of the final version of the revised VDS.

Swanmore Parish Council have submitted their VDS to the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) to be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document. The SDNPA must publish the draft VDS for a minimum of 6 weeks and invite representations from any interested party. Following the public consultation period SDNPA’s Planning Committee will consider any representations received and decide whether it is appropriate for the Swanmore VDS to be adopted by the SDNPA as a Supplementary Planning Document.

The document will, when adopted, provide further detail to policy SD5 (Design) of the South Downs Local Plan.
