Health and Wellbeing in the South Downs National Park

Health and Wellbeing in the South Downs National Park

Research shows that just being in nature can have a positive impact on mental and physical health and can enhance one’s mood, which has been more important than ever since the Covid 19 pandemic began, early in 2020.

You can find out how and why it can be beneficial by checking out the Benefits of the South Downs to your health and wellbeing page.

Our Inspiration page includes a few short videos of the South Downs National Park, while our Getting started page includes information about travelling to the South Downs, as well as links to information about walking, cycling and horse riding, and volunteering.

We hope these pages will inspire you to try out the positive effects of being out in the South Downs for yourself, but if you’re unable to reach the South Downs in person, you can you can still enjoy some of our Virtual Walks, or find inspiring videos on the South Downs National Park YouTube channel.

The South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) is working with partners to expand access to green space and to provide people with more opportunities to get outside.

You can read a version of the SDNPA’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy here. There is also a summary of the strategy.
