Towns and Parish Workshops

Towns and Parish Workshops

The South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Associations of Local Councils within the South Downs.

This Memorandum of Understanding sets out how the SDNPA will engage with the 176 Town and Parish Councils across the National Park.

The MoU states that the Associations of Local Councils and National Park Authority will hold three meetings per year inviting all Town and Parish Councils to attend.

Due to the high number of Town and Parish Councils in the National Park the Authority arranges meetings in Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex.

The meetings are an opportunity for Town and Parish Councils to hear about the work of the SDNPA in their local area, they also give Town and Parish Councils an opportunity to raise concerns they may have and ask questions of SDNPA officers and Members.

In the past the meetings have covered topics including The Partnership Management Plan, Issues and Options for the South Downs Local Plan, provided updates on key projects in the SDNPA and included presentations on subjects such as  Planning Enforcement, Secrets of the High Woods and the Dark Night Skies reserve.

All materials presented at the meetings can be found in this section.

  • Autumn 2023 Parish Meeting

      • November 2018 Town and Parish Council Workshops
        • The Autumn 2018 Town and Parish workshops presented the review of the South Downs Partnership Management Plan (PMP).Town and Parish Councils are key partners in delivering the Partnership Management Plan, and we used this round of workshops to encourage Town and Parish Councils to provide more information on the contribution their communities make.Officers of the South Downs National Park Authority gave a series of presentations to set the context for the PMP review, and provide more information on the Partnership Management Plan outcomes. We asked Town and Parish Councillors and Clerks to provide details of local projects (current & future) which could contribute to a PMP outcome. We are asking Town and Parish Councils to provide this information so that we can better understand the contributions which local communities make to achieving the aims and objectives of the Partnership Management Plan.We are now asking all Town and Parish Councils to submit details of current projects or future projects which may contribute to a PMP outcome, projects don’t need to be led by a Town/Parish Council, they may be local community groups, friends of societies or other local organisations which are delivering local projects. The important thing, is that we record what’s happening on the ground locally and how it is contributing to the South Downs Partnership Management Plan.Below you can find a link to the workshop presentations, display panels for each updated Partnership Management Plan outcome and a project proposal form for communities to submit project ideas which could contribute to a PMP outcome.

Please send completed project proposal forms to info@southdowns.gov.uk or by post to South Downs Centre, North Street, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 9DH.
