I Take The Lead Gallery

Our brand new ‘I Take the Lead’ pledge launched in August 2018. Signing the pledge involves dogs and their owners making a promise to follow our four Take the Lead campaign messages whilst walking on heathlands. These are:

  1. Putting your dog on a lead when walking near or approaching livestock
  2. Always bagging and binning your poo and helping other dog walkers to do the same
  3. Sticking to the paths during ground nesting bird season
  4. Staying out of ministry of defence danger areas when the red flags are up

Owners sign the back of the pledge card and the dogs print their paws on the back- so they sign up too! Pledgers then have their photo taken which can be printed out and added to their pledge card. They also received a free dog poo bone bag holder and a ‘I Take the lead’ badge. Both of which should be displayed proudly during their normal dog walks.

The pledge will continue to be rolled out across the Heathlands Reunited project area through site dog ambassadors, pop up gazebos and through local events. If you are interested in taking your passion for responsible dog ownership further, why not consider volunteering as a dog ambassador.
