Current consultations on conservation areas

Draft Conservation Area Character Appraisals and Management Plans

The National Park Authority, as the Local Planning Authority, is required to prepare Character Appraisals and Management Plans (CAAMPs) for the Conservation Areas within its boundaries. These are important documents in the planning system.

Character Appraisals describe the elements which contribute to the Special Character recognised by designation as a Conservation Area, whilst Management Plans set out a series of potential actions and opportunities for improving the area.

Fernhurst Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan

The South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) has prepared a new Character Appraisal and Management Plan for Fernhurst Conservation Area. These documents periodically review the continued need and purpose of conservation area designation, are recommended in Government guidance and have proved useful tools for effective development management.

The new appraisal proposes extensions to take in further properties beyond the current boundaries of the Conservation Area. A consultation draft of the document was published for a six week consultation in October, 2016.

The final draft was reviewed to reflect public responses and reported to the SDNPA Planning Committee on 8 December 2016

A paper copy of the Appraisal and Management Plan is available at Midhurst Library and at our reception at the South Downs Centre, North Street, Midhurst.
