Details

The Heathlands Reunited project (HeRe), led by the South Downs National Park Authority, aims to expand, create new and improve existing heathland to cover an area greater than 1,200 football pitches. Heathland covers just one per cent of the South Downs National Park, mostly separated into ‘islands’ where isolated plants and animals are far more vulnerable to local extinction. The project aims to reengage and inspire communities to visit their heathlands, learn more about them and work together to look after them, so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.

The HeRe project has been designed to support this aim and will run across 5 years – we are now half way through the project and are working closely with 11 partners on 41 heathland sites to achieve our project aims and goals.

We are now looking to recruit a Communities Outreach Officer to join the project team based in Midhurst. The role will focus on increasing participation including engaging with a diverse range of communities and hard to reach groups around the project area. You will also lead on the project’s volunteering opportunities.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a self-motivated individual with good communication and liaison skills with the ability to develop and deliver community engagement opportunities within the project aims. Candidates will need to be able to work collaboratively within a mutually supportive project team.

Role scope:

  • 18 Month fixed term contract to start March/April 2019.
  • 4-5 days a week – flexible working hours, including job share and part time will be considered but there is a need for some “out of hours work” so flexibility is required.
  • The role is based with the SDNPA in Midhurst with the potential for hot-desking at other SDNP offices and partner sites.
  • Due to the nature of the role a full driving licence with access to a car (some locations will not be easily accessible by public transport) is required.Sound like something that interests you? Think you can really add value to the role? Meet the person specification? Then please apply!
