Roads in the South Downs
All National Parks and their partner organisations have the same opportunity and challenge to redefine the standards of landscape management and conservation within its boundaries
The ‘Roads in the South Downs’ guidance has been developed in partnership with, and at the request of the four local highway authorities that serve the SDNP; Brighton and Hove CC, East Sussex CC, Hampshire CC and West Sussex CC.
The guide looks to raise awareness of best practice for rural road design and management for the highway authorities, and also to influence decision making, design and encourage the involvement of the local community in finding resources and solutions to reconcile traffic movement with the special qualities of the SDNP and purposes of the SDNPA.
