Smelly Feet

Smelly Feet

28 April 2024

10.00 to 13.30

If you don’t already suffer from smelly feet, you probably will after this walk! An ancient woodland indicator, Wild Garlic/Ramsons flourish in damp, shady places. With all the rain we have had of late, there is certainly potential for this year to be a bumper year. With the Hangers being home to several headwaters of the River Rother, and having plenty of tree cover, the area is the perfect place for a Wild Garlic seasonal walk. However, be prepared for an assault on your senses. The glistening carpet of dainty, white flowers on the woodland floor is there to distract you from the pungent garlicky aroma! This incredible natural display lasts just a few short weeks, so be sure not to miss out. Given the conditions favoured by Wild Garlic, expect mud on this walk and plenty of it. Even if the sun shines non-stop for the next few weeks there will still be plenty to go around. The Hangers are also not known for being flat. On the plus side there is a delightful pub (The Hawkley Inn) at the end of the route.
