Rifles at the Ready!

* Part of The Heritage Open Days 2023 * * This event is FREE. There will be opportunities to make donations on the day * A rare chance to visit the Steyning Rifle Range and see how it was used for target practice by the Sussex Rifle Volunteers from 1860 onwards. There will be vintage equipment and deactivated rifles on display, repaired targets will be in operation and the history and use of the site will be explained. WW II rationing refreshments will also be available to sample and we may even have a firing demonstration! Pre-booking is essential. Dogs on leads only. There are no on-site toilet facilities. This event is run by volunteers of the Steyning Downland Scheme, who are restoring the Rifle Range as an educational resource. Donations to this work can be made on the day or via this link. Please note: This is a disused rifle range and no live firing now takes place.
