Parks, Gardens and Battlefields

Parks, Gardens and Battlefields

There are thirty Registered Parks and Gardens within the National Park boundary, as well as two Registered Battlefields, at Cheriton and Lewes. These national designations are selected by inspectors at Historic England.

The Registered Parks and Gardens included on the National Heritage List, grouped by County are:

Hampshire

West Sussex

East Sussex

Other historic Parks and Gardens have been researched and recorded by County Garden Trusts. Where significant remains of these designed landscapes survive, they are likely to be regarded as ‘non-designated heritage assets’ by the Local Planning Authority and will be treated in the manner prescribed by Paragraph 135 of the National Planning Policy Framework when applications pertaining to them are determined.
