Go Lewes

Enjoy a car free break in the historic market town of Lewes.

Explore ancient attractions and an eclectic mix of independent shops, galleries and antique emporiums. Unwind in one of the many restaurants and cafes serving local food, or wander the cobbled streets and quirky twittens – ancient Saxon alleyways revealing stunning views of the surrounding South Downs.

From Lewes you can easily visit the eastern area of the South Downs National Park and experience the full range of riches that make the South Downs unique.

Explore a Norman castle, a medieval timber-framed house, Cluniac priory ruins, Saxon burial mounds, the Long Man of Wilmington carved into the hillside, the homes of Bloomsbury writers and artists, the unspoilt Cuckmere estuary and stunning vantage points along the South Downs Way.

Lewes is the perfect destination to explore the towns, villages and landscapes of the South Downs on foot, by bike or public transport.

Visit the Cyclists & Walkers Welcome Directory to see where you can expect a warm and friendly welcome.
