Minerals & Waste Plans

We are responsible for planning for the future management of waste and production of minerals within the South Downs National Park. We are working in partnership with neighbouring county councils we have adopted the following joint local plans:

We are now working in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council on a Minerals and Waste Sites Plan and with West Sussex County Council on a Joint Minerals Local Plan to ensure complete up-to-date policy coverage across the National Park.


Soft sand review of the West Sussex and South Downs Joint Minerals Local Plan

We are currently working in partnership with West Sussex County Council on a Single Issue Review of Soft Sand Policy following the adoption of the ‘Joint Minerals Local Plan’ in July 2018.

We submitted the Soft Sand Review to the Planning Inspectorate in April 2020.

Review of the East Sussex, South Downs and Brighton & Hove Waste and Minerals Plan

Following an earlier Regulation 18 consultation and Call for Sites, the Authorities will
be holding a further online consultation for 12 weeks in Spring and Summer 2020.
