Minerals & Waste Plans

The South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) works in partnership with the county and unitary authorities on minerals and waste planning matters.

Together, we have adopted the following joint minerals and waste local plans:

The SDNPA is currently working with Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council and the New Forest National Park Authority to produce an update to the Hampshire Minerals and Waste Plan (HMWP) to guide minerals and waste decision-making in Hampshire up to 2040.

The Planning Inspector, appointed by the Secretary of State, has produced their Final Report which concludes the examination of the update to the HMWP. The SDNPA will consider the Inspector’s Final Report, and whether to adopt the update to the HMWP, at the full meeting of the South Downs National Park Authority on 07 July 2026.

Further information about the update to the HMWP can be found on Hampshire County Council’s website.
