Leaving Only Footprints

For over 1000 years, the South Downs Way has been used as a lifeline for trading and bringing communities together. These days the South Downs Way offers a great opportunity to exercise, relax and to enjoy the beautiful landscapes that surround the path.

The South Downs Way is 100 miles of great chalk downland walking; it’s about the wonderful experiences available to everyone. Stretching from Winchester to Eastbourne there are incredible views to drink in along the way, including the Isle of Wight, the high heathlands of the Western Weald and Blackdown, the heavily wooded Weald of Sussex and the receding ridges of the Chalk Downs themselves. All of this before you get to the iconic white cliffs!

For nature lovers, the South Downs Way passes through a range of diverse habitats. Walkers can see roe deer darting through wildflower meadows, witness hares boxing and even spot a red kite hunting above.

Tie these experiences together and enjoy a self-guided walking holiday along the South Downs Way organised by Footprints of Sussex. See the hidden wildlife, appreciate the stories and inspiration behind the most famous art and literature and of course, enjoy some of the best local produce.

From ice cream delivered by old-fashioned bike to local lamb served in front of roaring fires in quintessentially English inns, the experiences are just waiting for you to come and enjoy.
