Steeple Chasing

Steeple Chasing

17 January 2026

10.00 to 13.00

Steeple Chasing takes its name from the magnificent church whose towering spire dominates both the surrounding landscape and the tiny village it was built to serve.

Built with great ambition and generosity, it stands as a reminder of a time when faith shaped the community, but that grandeur alone cannot fill a church.

However, this 6 mile walk is not only about the church, it’s also a celebration of our small community and the start of a new year of walking together.

With no local pub to retire to, we’ll gather instead at the welcoming Privett Centre (who are also providing our parking).

Here, our hostess Amanda will prepare a simple but generous first supper that we’ll enjoy sitting at one long table, beside a warm wood-burning stove.

As we break bread together we’ll honour one of the oldest traditions of all, the sharing of a meal as a sign of friendship, gratitude and belonging.

I enjoy crafting all my walks, but Steeple Chasing has been a particular joy, bringing together the beauty of the landscape, the history of the village, the simple pleasure of sharing a meal…..and perhaps the odd religious reference!

I would be delighted if you joined me. Amanda is a professional caterer and food educator, who enjoys using the freshest of seasonal ingredients.

By all accounts, people book on her courses simply to enjoy the lunch she provides!

MENU A hearty vegetable stew, homemade soda bread, butter and cheese accompanied by unlimited tea, coffee and water for the table. This includes non-dairy, decaf and fruit tea options.

Price £13 per person (at cost).
