Landscape-Led Planning – Golf Club Practice Nets

Landscape-Led Planning – Golf Club Practice Nets

June 18, 2015

Our Rangers and Planning team work closely together  and with our partner authorities to conserve the landscape and scenic beauty of the National Park.

In January 2014, one of our rangers, spotted luminous green practice nets at a golf course within the National Park that appeared to be out of touch with the beauty of the surrounding area.

Our Planning Link Officer for the area alerted the relevant ‘host’ planning authority to the issue and it was found that planning permission had not been obtained for the development.

The golf club were invited to submit a retrospective planning application. After review, the application was recommended to be refused due to the negative impact on the landscape. In April 2014, the application was refused and the golf club was asked to remove the structures. The club then lodged an unsuccessful appeal against this decision in February 2015.

We want planning to work for the landscape and for the communities who call it home and our ranger and planning link office met with the golf club secretary to discuss more suitable locations for the practice nets.

The golf club have now submitted a revised application that shows regard for this special landscape, while still meeting the needs of the golf club.
