Community tapestry goes on display

July 2, 2015

A tapestry which captures every home in the South Downs communities of Iford and Swanborough has been unveiled for the first time.

The artwork, four years in the making, was created by members of the local community with the support of the South Downs National Park Authority’s Sustainable Communities Fund. It is on display at St Nicholas Church in the village of Iford.Iford tapestry

Jan Knowlson, South Downs National Park Authority ranger, said:

“This is an amazing creation, intricately capturing every brick of every house in these communities. The time and energy the community have put in to make this record of their heritage is incredible.”

The SDNPA’s Sustainable Communities Fund contributed £372 to the project which was used to buy materials for the project such as natural-died yarns and canvases.
