Stargazers Welcome
In May 2016 the South Downs National Park became the world’s newest International Dark Sky Reserve, only the 2nd in England and one of only 16 in the world.
The star-studded skies overhead are as valuable as the beautiful rolling landscapes of the South Downs and offer opportunities to attract new visitors and extend the tourism season during the winter and spring seasons when the dark nights start earlier and last longer.
The South Downs National Park Authority is developing a Stargazers Welcome scheme, in partnership with Responsible Travel for their members based in the South Downs region.
Joining the scheme will be FREE for participating accommodation providers. However, they must offer a range of additional facilities and services that help make stargazing visitors more comfortable, including those essential items you have forgotten to pack such as a flask and warm blanket.
Look for the Stargazers logo or filter to find Stargazers Welcome accommodation providers in the South Downs section on Responsible Travel. Please watch this space for more news on when our Stargazers Welcome will be ready.
