Thursday 21 July – Wonderful Water

Thursday 21 July – Wonderful Water

The chalk aquifer of the South Downs gives us the water we drink and wash in, and feeds winterbourne streams and local rivers.

From dewponds to chalk streams, water is a precious resource for people and wildlife.

Dew ponds, bogs, chalk streams, lagoons and the sea support a host of wildlife, including birds, dragonflies, damselflies, otters, water voles, frogs, toads, fish, seals and even seahorses.

Recovery is under way.

Waterways have been repaired, species reintroduced and dew ponds are getting restored, providing a network of water-based habitat for nature to thrive!
