This is an interesting career opportunity for an experienced planning policy professional with an interest but not necessarily experience of minerals and waste to lead on all minerals and waste plans for the National Park Authority. You will also lead on specific policy areas of the emerging South Downs Local Plan, which is due to be submitted for examination in March 2018.

We work in partnership with the three counties of Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex and the unitary authority of Brighton & Hove on minerals and waste plans. We are currently at examination with the draft West Sussex Joint Minerals Local Plan and have just finished a Call for Evidence and Sites for the East Sussex Waste and Minerals Local Plan Review.

We are also preparing the first Local Plan to cover the whole of the National Park, which is a landscape led local plan taking an ecosystem services approach to development. The South Downs Local Plan will provide a strategic framework for the 52 neighbourhood plans in various stages of preparation.

The National Park contains over 1,600km2 of England’s most iconic lowland landscapes stretching from Winchester in the west to Eastbourne in the east. It is not just about rural planning as the National Park contains five market towns within its boundary, has a resident population of over 100,000 people and 2 million people living within 5km of its boundaries.
