Archaeology walk- The Downs through the ages (ReNature Festival 2026)

Join us for this fascinating walk around the Cuckmere, with its rich history hidden in the passage of time. A journey into the history of this extraordinary chalk landscape.
We’ll discuss the secrets of how these iconic landscapes were formed, chat about the interesting archaeology. there will be discussion about exciting discoveries made by aerial photography and Monument Mentors.
As we explore the landscape and some ruins, we’ll speculate on what this place might once be used for and share finds from recent excavations.
Expect about two and half hours of easy riverside walking, pausing to admire earthworks and ideas about what they might mean. We’ll also share simple, powerful ways you can help protect and care for the Downs.
We begin and end the walk at the Visitors Centre, Seven Sisters Country Park.
Duration:( Approx 3 hours ; 1 hour each way and 1 hour of activities).
Time: 12 – 2:30pm
This activity is part of the annual ReNature Festival 2026 – South Downs National Park Authority. Other activities happening on site on this day include scything, mindfulness in Nature, Nature photography, archaeology walk, bird spotting and butterfly walks and willow weaving. You can sign up for more activities to make the best of your visit to the iconic Seven Sisters.
We recommend that attendees wear clothing suitable for the weather. Paths may be uneven, so sturdy footwear is advised.
