South Downs Way Disability Challenge

South Downs Way Disability Challenge

Andy Davies Memorial Event

Taking place from Saturday 25 July to Friday 31 July, this externally run summer event aims to encourage people with disabilities to use the South Downs Way. The event is open to all.

Think of it as a community ramble where everyone is welcome – families, children, dogs on leads etc. There are five event days.  There is one main Challenge of about 8.4 miles (13.5km) from Cocking Hill to Whiteways, but participants can do as long or as short a section as they want – see our Stages and Maps page for details. As well as the main challenge, there will be four shorter sessions.

A three‑wheeled, wheelchair‑accessible, pony‑drawn vehicle – the Obamobile, pulled by pony Obama – will be available for participants who would otherwise be unable to complete the route. There is more information on this here.

There will be volunteers, South Downs National Park rangers, and the Obamobile at each location. Disabled participants will need to be supported by their own team, particularly if undertaking the main challenge where collection at the individual’s finishing point will need to be provided.

Join us, bring your friends and family and feel free to use the event to fundraise for your favourite charity if you wish. We will update this page with information about the hiring of all-terrain mobility vehicles, precise meeting places and other advice about each event. Further information can be found on our Facebook group.
