The following projects were supported by the South Downs Joint Committee, and are examples of the kind of projects we may support in the future.

West Meon Community Shop/Internet Café and ‘Drop In’ Meeting Point
Applicant : West Meon Community Shop Association Ltd
Project Aims: Convert an old store room at the rear of the Community Shop into an Internet Café and ‘Drop In’ Meeting Point. Provide I.T. training facilities for the young and the elderly.
Awarded: £10,000 Area: East Hampshire
Downland Environment Education facility at Coombe Barn, Sompting
Applicant : The Sompting Estate
Project Aims: The conversion of a small, derelict, traditional flint and timber barn in the downs near Worthing to provide an open plan classroom area, a learning resource centre, and refreshment and washroom facilities.
Awarded: £25,000 Area: West Sussex
Cleaner, Greener Buses
Applicant : Cuckmere Community Bus
Project Aims: Conversion of (initially) one minibus to run on Pure Plant Oil, and having proved that the conversion is successful, upgrade the local petrol statiion pump to dispense the Pure Plant Oil.
Awarded: £10,000 Area: East Sussex
Teaching school-children about food and farming
Applicant : Hampshire Country Learning
Project aims : To help raise knowledge of food, farming and the countryside to all school children within Hampshire AONB. Developing school visits to farms will make children more aware of the South Downs countryside.
Awarded : £5,000.00 Area: East Hampshire
