The way we live today and the state of our communities, is affected by economic, social and environmental factors. How we deal with these factors is key to the sustainability and viability of communities, and the National Park, in years to come.
From buying locally grown produce to encouraging links with urban groups and promoting social inclusion, being ‘Sustainable’ ‘Green’ or ‘Responsible’ is about taking into account the needs of the local environment, local communities, business and visitors and working to meet and fulfil those needs. In this way, we can improve the quality of life and secure the future growth of our local communities.
The sustainable development of the National Park and its local communities is an essential requirement and mission of the SDNPA.
The Sustainable Communities Fund is a grant scheme administered by the SDNPA to support local community projects that have a positive impact on future generations and take full consideration of social, economic and environmental concerns.
Community, charity, voluntary, Town/Parish Councils and other "not for profit" organisations are eligible. Groups must be properly consituted and financial accounts will be assessed with any large unallocated funds held being queried. More information on eligibility and criteria can be found in the Information Sheet.
Grants are available for up to 60% of the total project cost but you may be offered a smaller percentage. It is very important for other local authorities to contribute where it benefits their communities and helps achieve their objectives, for instance local project should always be supported by the parish or town council.
