New Member wanted for South Downs National Park

11 Jan 2012

The South Downs National Park is recruiting a new Member to join its governing body. Applicants have until Monday 13 February to apply for the role at the UK’s newest National Park which will be appointed by the Secretary of State following national, open competition.

Richard Shaw, Chief Executive of the South Downs National Park, said:

“This is an exciting time to join the UK’s newest National Park at this early stage of its life. The successful applicant will join us at the start of our second year and will have the opportunity to help shape our future direction.”

The South Downs National Park Authority is working to build a modern National Park fit for the 21st Century, working closely with partners and communities in areas such as conservation, recreation, planning, access, land management and resources. It is the role of the National Park Authority’s 27 Members to govern this work.

Members are expected to commit a minimum of two to three days per month to the work of the National Park Authority. They’re not paid for this work, but are able to claim certain allowances. The appointment will commence in May 2012, or as soon after as practical. Applications are particularly encouraged from members of ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, women and young people.

The deadline for receipt of applications is midday on Monday 13 February 2012. The new Member will replace Susan Warren who has recently stepped down from the role.
